Soft Loc
Like many individuals, locing is a personal choice to learn more about the natural hair. Personally, for me it has deepened my knowledge about accepting my "nappy" hair and all its beauty. Most of all starting this journey has provided me with the freedom of not having to depend on harsh chemicals for pressing, flat ironing are perming my hair.
Doing my research on the internet, I discovered many techniques for starting locs; back combing, twisting, brush rubbing, free forming, coiling and braiding. The technique that captured my attention is called "bradelocz". Like many, I was skeptical of starting locs I was considering sisterlocs, but the cost and maintenance was not in my budget. So after following the bradelocz technique, I must say I am very pleased with my progress.
Once you follow the bradelocz technique steps, sit back and enjoy your journey to maturing bradelocz. The length of time will differ for each individual to achieving mature locs.
Step 1- Spray hair with water and vinegar, cover with a hair cap for at least 30 minutes.
Step 2- Rinse hair with cold water instead of hot - it helps to remove residue and hair product build up.
Step 3- Shampoo hair - my choice is Dr. Bonner Peppermint Castile Soap - it leaves my hair feeling silky soft.
Step 4- Rinse hair once again this time with warm water.
Step 5- Condition hair - my choice is Suave.
Step 6- Using ponytail holder - section hair into four - using the comb of choice, begin to comb the hair out from the bottom up and braid the hair into plaits.
Determine the size of section of hair you wish to form into locs and began braiding - continue braiding the entire head.
During the loc forming phase refrain from manipulating the hair as much as possible. Refrain from styling, the reason for doing so allows the hair to loc better without breakage. Keep the hair clean and moisturized to deter breakage.
