Mechanical Broadhead
Broadheads come in all kinds of shapes, sizes, and styles. With all of these different choices, and all the different marketing out there it can get pretty tough to decide on what broadheads are right for you. The truth of the matter is, is that there are a lot of really good broadheads out there and there are also a lot of junk broadheads out there. Choosing a good broadhead is essential for a successful hunt, as a poorly made broadhead could end up causing you to lose that trophy animal you have been waiting for. If you're a Bow Hunter and you want to save a little money, do not try to do it by buying junky broadheads, I can guarantee that you will be sorry.
Broadheads mainly come in two different styles expandables and fixed blade. Expandable Broadheads have blades that are folded upwards and then upon impact expand and open up. Fixed Blade Broadheads are exactly like the name suggests, they are broadheads that have blades already opened ready to go.
Choosing a style of broadhead is up to you, as long as you buy a good, quality broadhead it does not matter what style you decide to shoot. It is really going to be a personal preference thing. I will however give you a few pros and cons about each one that will help to give you a better idea as to what you may want to shoot.
Mechanical(expandable) Blades
PROS:
-Because the blades on this style of broadhead are folded up into the Arrow Head, it flies more like a normal Field Point, as it does not have any open blades to catch the wind.
-The head of the broadhead is less bulky and therefore is not as prone to hitting weeds or branches, that might be in your line of shot.
-Since the blades are folded up there is a less likely chance of accidentally cutting your self on the blades.
CONS
-If you are shooting at and animal at any kind of angle, there is a chance that the broadhead will open unevenly or only partially resulting in a less damaging cut to the lungs and heart.
-Expandables have been known to fail and not open at all, causing a lot of lost animals.
-Prone to getting clogged with dirt, moisture, and other elements that could cause the broadhead blades to not open.
Fixed Blades
PROS
-No matter what angle you shoot the animal at, since the blades are already open they will be able to effectively slice the vitals.
-If a fixed Blade Broadhead gets dirty or wet it will not cause the cutting ability to fail.
-It is much easier to replace blades on a fixed blade than an expandable
CONS
-Because the blades are open right from the get go, it is much easier for the wind to grab a hold of the arrow. It also naturally will have a different flight pattern than your Field Points. So it does take more time to set them up for you bow.
-You are way more likely to accidentally cut yourself with a fixed blade than an Expandable Broadhead.
Overall when choosing a broadhead, do your research, read on line forums and user reviews on different companies and broadhead models and styles. You may have to end up shooting a few different broadheads before you find the ones you like, but as I mentioned earlier, broadheads are not the area to cheap out on. A few of the broadhead companies that I would suggest would be Muzzy, Magnus, Slicktrick, Wasp, and American Broadhead. I have shot everyone of their broadheads and find that they are all very durable and well made.
I hope that this article has helped to give you a better idea as to how to decide on what broadheads to shoot. If you have any further questions You Can visit my site that is listed below.

Mechanical or Fixed blade Broadheads?
Which type of broadhead should i use for my bow? A mechanical or fixed blade broadhead? thanks
I was raised on the KISS principal myself. Keep It Simple Son as my dad used to say. The more complicated the more likely it is to break or not work properly. Use the fixed blade broad-heads under this philosophy.
