Genesis Mini Bow
Ten months in advance I mailed out must come invitations to our families to come to my home in Yelm Washington. They needed to bring their tents and sleeping bags and plan on spending the night. They were to come after lunch on Saturday, the third weekend in August.
Lots of planning had to be done for this event. My mother and I got busy. We planned dinner, everything was to be done outside, after all, this was a camp out. Our dinner menu was hamburgers, hot dogs, teriyaki rib strips, salads, corn on the cob and breads. For breakfast we planned pancakes, bacon, scrambled eggs, toast, and fruit. We purchased a couple of snow cone makers and we had everything else we needed except for the disposable dinnerware.
We hung a camp shower inside a Grand Trunk Dunny, purchased 2 huge family camping tents for the kids, one for the boys and one for the girls. The camp shower is really great, it holds 5 gallons of water and is heated by the sun. The Grand Trunk Dunny is like a mini tent and can be used for any number of things. You Can use it for a a dressing room, a shower room, storage for extra stuff, and also a portable toilet fits perfectly inside this dunny. This is a real handy item to have for any avid camper. When people began arriving they would start to set up their camping tents almost immediately. When all of the people had their tents set up in the field it was truly a sight to see. There were tents of all sizes. As I observed these tents, I did notice one thing in particular. Some did not need guy lines. I have a tent with guy lines and I am forever tripping over them. The tents that went up without guy lines were up and ready before the ones with guy lines.
We have had this re-union twice, this year will be our third. It has been a huge success and everyone looks forward to the family camp-out every year. We will carry on with this re-union every year. Our grandchildren know each other well now.
The first year, my brother bought a couple of Compound Bows to introduce the kids to archery. He bought Genesis compound bows because the draw length in right for any size of person using it. We used 2 bales of straw and attached a target to it. The kids really enjoyed this lesson in archery. They wanted to use the compound bows again next time they came. So this has become a yearly event as well. Genesis bows are perfect, a bow anyone at any age can use the same bow.
The following year, which was last year, my brother and I bought compasses for all the kids, all 18 of them. Because of our past experiences, we think it is very important for all the kids to learn how to use a compass. This I admit, was a bit of a challenge, not everybody caught on. We will have to repeat it every year until they get it right.
This year, it is planned to take all the grandchildren on a walk on a nature trail down to the Deschutes River, behind my home. There is a pretty good swimming hole there that they will surely enjoy. I also plan for the kids to bury a time capsule.
At night, before the kids retire to their camping tent, we have smores by the campfire and bring out the karaoke machine. Everyone gets in on this, especially the kids.
The Grand Trunk Dunny and the camp shower has been great for washing up those little hands, not to mention the fun the kids had just playing with it. The kids used the Dunny for changing their clothes, too, which could not have worked out better.
I am so pleased at the success of our re-unions. The grandchildren know their cousins well now and really look forward to seeing each other at the next family camp out. It is a great time for the parents, us grandparents, and for my mother, great grandma. We are all looking forward to the third weekend in August.
