Compound Recurve Bow

Recurve or Compound Bow?

It really depends on who you ask and what their ethics are and why they shoot. If you want real challenge, go with the stick, I like to raise my self up to the challenge.

Any Traditional Bow takes a lot of time to learn. You have to develop muscle memory to gain consistency and accuracy. While this is also true with a compound bow, much of it can be overcome with the use of stabilizers and sights.

I have been shooting for about 25 years, and currently shoot a Long Bow, so I am a little biased. However, my little brother started shooting Traditional Recurve and switched to compound after a few years and developed a lot of bad habits. He lost a lot of control in his supporting hand and his release was a bit sloppy too. Was he hitting his target? Yeah, but not with much consistency, and his groupings were loose. He chose to pick up a stick after a little while and had to relearn some technique.

Stick bows force you to learn good technique that can be applied to the compound. Compounds are great for some people, but in my opinion, they make it difficult to start shooting a traditional bow.

Stick bows are also really really really light and when you are hunting you will almost forget they are there. NOT true for a compound.

Stick bows have a negative point or two. They are slow in comparison to compounds.....very slow. They also (for the most part) have a shorter range, and some people don't think they look as cool ; )

Traditional Archery also has a really cool community, a bunch of guys that are adding challenge to their game for the fun of it. When it comes down to it, archers are pretty cool people in general whether they are traditional or compound, and its awesome you'ree thinking of getting a bow!
