I am new at bow hunting and want to get the right equipment before i go to the woods. I will be mostly hunting from the ground at least at first so i need something that will stand up to moving through the woods. I also want one with a good blood trail that will take a deer down as quickly as possible. any help would be great thanks.
As Gecko stated, the Slick Trick is hard to beat.Flies like a Field Point, makes a hole like a 12 gauge slug. Now for some advice from someone who knows- Accuracy is the single most important part of the bow shot. If You Can make an accurate shot, you can kill deer with a bow.The best is the double lung broadside shot or a quartering away shot. When a double lung shot is made, you can usually see the deer die on his feet and pile up within your sight.Good luck on your hunting season!
Bow fishing in Texas now requires fishing license?
My mom's husband told me the other day he saw someone being harassed by the game warden for bow fishing without a license.
Though, the game warden (about a year or so ago) would walk right by me when I used to bow fish without asking any questions.
My mom's boyfriend said that the law on it is: "If your bow has a reel, then it requires a license. But if it has a regular spool that you have to manually roll back up, you might not need a license"
Any truth in this? What is the current law on bow fishing in Texas?
I thought it didn't matter as long as I didn't shoot game fish or catfish.

Hunting and fishing regulations are addressed in the Texas Administrative Code. This page summarizes regulations that apply to bow fishing.
Successful walleye fishing trips begin with knowledge of the fish itself and how it functions in daily life. Much like hunting, fishing requires an understanding of the target species, and with walleye, this means learning their daily and seasonal patterns so that your walleye fishing trips are more productive and you come away with an abundance of fish.
First of all, you must understand that most of a fish's habits are formed through instinct rather than through intelligence. Fish do not have reasoning or rationalization ability that humans have and therefore must have some other means of motivating their actions. With walleye, as with most fish, actions are determined mostly by instinct with a little help from surrounding structure and weather patterns.
After you've made a few walleye fishing trips, you'll begin to understand the migration pattern more thoroughly. Walleye are typically found on the bottom of the body of water they inhabit, and they put to good use any structures found on the bottom of their lake, river, reservoir, or other home. These structures can be something as small as a ditch, hole, bump, or bar, or they can be larger structures, including manmade structures, like sunken debris, old roadbeds, levees, or buildup of grass, weeds, and rocks.
Successful walleye fishing trips also depend on knowledge regarding why the walleye choose to move or migrate at a given time. On a daily basis, walleye will leave their sanctuary, usually a deep spot on the bottom of the lake or river, only to follow food. Often, they move to shallower areas of the water to feed and return to the darker depths to rest. However, because fish don't observe "hunger", they need a motivating factor to pull them out of their homes to feed. This usually comes in the form of a visual notice, when a school of baitfish passes by. At this point, the walleye has something visual to follow and will make the effort to catch the food it needs to survive. When taking part in walleye fishing trips, it is important to remember this fact, as you will never catch a walleye based on scent alone; they need to see your bait, which means that you have to present it to them where they are at to attract them.
Walleyes also use the underwater structures for protection against any kind of current or an overabundance of heat in the waters above. They can use the structure to guide themselves to and from their "homes", since they can identify the difference in shape and navigate by instinct among these.

Archery Moose hunting is the Holy Grail for many hunters. As the largest of the deer family, the moose is an attractive draw for hunters. Its massive size (over one thousand pounds) and incredible horn spreads (up to seventy inches) make it the king of kills.
Moose are an especially good hunt for archers. Archery moose hunting is also ideal because moose are nearly blind, and easy to sneak up upon and reach with a fatal bow shot. It is highly possible for an archer to get within ten feet of the moose they are targeting.
The fall season is the best time for moose hunting. This is its mating season, and bulls will be susceptible to moose calls, making it easier prey. Bulls will also begin to move away from their homes to search for a mate, which will increase a hunter's chance of spotting one. Despite this movement, moose can be difficult to locate, because they have a variety of habitats: from swamps, to lowlands, to marshes, to as well as more wooded areas. It is recommended that new moose hunters hire a guide, as an experienced moose caller can successfully call moose up to three or four miles away. Since the moose may already be traveling in search for a mate, this can be especially useful in locating them.
Generally there are two primary methods of archery moose hunting: still hunting and stand hunting. Both methods should be used in an area known to be populated by moose trails, droppings, and other signs of moose habitation. Still hunting is recommended for rainy days, as it will be harder for the moose to detect hunters. The hunter will circle slowly in a area looking for moose. This may be more effective in locating moose, and requires a less powerful call. In stand hunting, the moose hunter stays in a stand that is located on a known moose trail. This method requires a powerful moose call, as the hunter is relying on the moose coming to the stand. This also requires that the stand be placed in a wooded area to avoid detection. This can also pose problems for hunters as moose aren't always located in wooded areas. This is why it is especially important to check for moose signs when setting up a stand.
Archery moose hunting is exhilarating and requires a lot of planning, preparation, and skill. However, with a little preparation and some skill, You Can hunt the monster of all deer.
My name is Ted Lake and I'm building a website in memory of my dad Deuaine Lake. This site is all about Archery and Archery Hunting. My dad started me when I was 5 years old (1956) and I've continued to teach both my boys the same respect for the sport of archery. Please feel welcome to visit my free website at http://www.complete-archery-information.com.
I'm new to bow-hunting. I'm used to Tree Stand hunting with a .270 and it didn't matter about scent. I've killed many deer wearing regular camo. This is my first year bow-hunting. I'm going to be in a ground blind on Oct 1st. Whats the deal with scent technology? Is it that big of a deal in bow-hunting? If so which is the better brand? I've been looking at some Scent Lock "Savanna EXT."
If it is a major part of bow-hunting how did guys like Ben Pearson and Fred Bear kill so many just wearing a flannel jacket?
Edit:
Dumdum,
What about a groundblind? If I'm in a blind I can't stalk to use the wind. What would you suggest for that situtation?
If you have the money to invest in the high dollar stuff go right ahead. It can't hurt at all to have another method of scent control besides the wind. But if you play the wind and hunt downwind of game You Can smell like a skunk and still be successful. That's how Pearson, Bear and many others did it before anyone ever head of wearing clothing that reduced or eliminated scent. I will limit out every year if I wish to- sometimes I will hold back on the last day of the season to fill my limit and on that particular day the deer may not co-operate and I have to settle for 5 instead of 6. And I have never used a scent blocking suit or garment of any kind.So it is not a requirement for you to buy it to be successful.
