How to Learn the Violin - With a Twist
If you are looking at how to learn the violin I would focus on just 2 ways, online or offline? By that I mean consider, firstly whether you want to go down the more traditional route of finding and visiting a violin teacher or whether you want to look at the ever increasing popular online violin lessons.
Both have their benefits and drawbacks. Personally being an internet savvy musician (blush) I would seriously consider the online option, even if you have never considered it before.
Having an offline or 'real' teacher is great and for the very advanced players this personal interaction is essential. But if you're not off to the Royal Academy next month online lessons have enough content and quality to help you develop into a proficient player very quickly.
One of the best parts of online or video lessons for me is that you are often able to find courses that are created and taught by world class violinists. Having a normal lessons with these guys would set you back around $100 per hour but a lot of the programs featuring such masters are tagged at around $30 for 12 months worth of tuition.
Pretty good value for money, I think you will agree. Now if it was any old Joe teaching these courses I would steer well clear but if its the 21st century equivalent of Paganini then my eyes and ears are open!
If you want to know how to learn violin then most of the online programs available can teach you how to do this and how to do it well, whilst having fun and saving money.
About the Author
My personal favourite is that from the principal violinist of the Manhattan String Quartet. You Can get 12 months worth of world class violin lessons for the cost of one, not to mention all of the cool bonuses he throws in like music, books and backing tracks to play along to.

In Oliver Twist what does this line mean?
After Oliver meets the Board of Guardians he sobs himself to sleep. Then it says after "What a noble illustration of the tender laws of this favoured country!" Paragraph :
"For the combination of both these blessings, Oliver bowed low by the direction of the beadle, and was then hurried away to a large ward, where, on a rough, hard bed, he sobbed himself to sleep. What a noble illustration of the tender laws of this favoured country! They let the paupers go to sleep!"
The statement is sarcastic. One might expect a destitute child to be treated with tenderness, whereas Oliver received nothing of the kind. In the same sarcastic mode one might say: "What a splendid example of our compassionate legal system". In a more straightforward mode one might say: "This is a good example of how our legal system is utterly lacking in basic human kindness."
